CLUB NEWS

Farewell  Westy and Miranda ............

It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Westy, Miranda and the girls this week.
Westy arrived at the club three and half years ago looking for a game of footy and has
become one of our true Red & Blues. A great on field contributor for both league and
reserves, with his experience helping us to three Reserves Premierships in that time,
but it has been as our artiste extraordinaire that Westy has truly contributed to the
Falcons Footy Club. Westy, along with Les & Tamara Heckingbottom of Signswest,
created our current theme for the Falcons Logo, Newsletter, Anniversary Book,
Medallions and Website. The time and work that both Westy and Miranda [our game
photographer] have contributed to the club is greatly appreciated and I know from
the comments we receive the website especially has been a great success.

For those who don’t know Westy and Miranda are moving to Lismore in N.S.W. but
Westy will continue to sponsor the club and support the website so he is only out there
in cyberspace.

On behalf of the committee, players and supporters of the Falcons Football Club we
thank Westy & Miranda and wish them all the best in their new ventures...

PS: Lismore was the first place Westy spied in N.S.W. with an oval that had 4 posts......

Award Night for the Falcons Ends an Awesome Season

DSC00158
Past and  present players recognised for their milestone games played with Karratha Falcons.

The Falcons Football Club held their end of season presentation night last Saturday and it was a great turnout that saw past and present players enjoy an evening of celebrations.

The League Fairest & Best Award was won for a club record third time by Ash Milligan, a deserved and popular winner. Anyone who has seen Ash play will agree that his determination, hardness and on field leadership is one of the main reasons that Falcons have won two flags out of the four years Ash has played for the club. Runner up went to our young speedster Cam “Rooney” Nowotny. Cam is a second year player who’s speed is phenomenal. He is able to break open a game with blistering runs from the backline to deliver the ball into the forwards on a regular basis and we look forward to many more years with Cam in the Falcons colours

The Reserves Fairest & Best went to a first year player Rory “Barra” McDonald. Rory has come up through our Junior Club and proved to be a consistent midfielder who will no doubt advance into the league side over the next couple of years. The runner up went to our ageless Nathaniel Ihamino or Westy as most people know him. He was very surprised to receive the award after being kept to nine games due to an ankle injury, but we all know how valuable a contribution Westy makes on the field. He is an experienced player who gives leadership and stability to the midfield and forward line.

The Club also introduced Game Milestone Medallions this year and retrospectively awarded 100, 150 & 200 Game Medallions to past and present players. There has been just over 900 players represent the club over the past 32 years of which 27 were recognised on Saturday. Four players have achieved 200 games Shane Davy, Jason Oliver, Jason Ryan and Milo Cassidy a great achievement in any club.

After a great season we look forward to 2011 and encourage one and all to come down and enjoy the comradery at the club whether it be as a player, volunteer or supporter all are welcome.

Hairdo's Falcons Tribute

1995 got better. Cam Robbins was our Senior Coach and Ron Walker (Rocket) our Reserves Coach. Cam guided us to a Wooden Spoon which wasn’t to glamorous as we had come away with a home preliminary final defeat against Rovers the previous year. To Cam’s credit he insisted we learned skills on both sides of our body so here I was at 22 learning to use my left foot. Over time this has helped me greatly and I cannot emphasise enough the need for every player to ‘grow’ a left foot and ‘left’ handball. ‘95 finished on a sour note for me. I had played every Reserves game through the year plus finals but was omitted from the big stage – the Grand Final. I imagine in the room right now there are one or two of you who are in this space right now. Well lads, there’s only two ways to go. You can spend the rest of your life tripping over your lip wondering what could have been and blaming every bugger in the Club or you can use this as your motivation to improve. As they say it’s not how many times you get knocked down but how many times you get back up that count. We went on to win the Reserves Premiership convincingly against the Kats (spit!).

Congratulations from Afar

A fantastic result, Premeirships don’t come easy at any level but the rewards are something you keep forever.  Everybody connected to the club who made this happen should be very proud, congratulations Falcons.  Now I have an excuse to go and drink a carton. You did a terrific job with my book it was much appreciated Thanks  John Ottaway

Firstly thanks for all the updates throughout the year - was great news to see both grades finally getting up for a win.  I even broke my "no facebook" rule and sent a few messages through to a few of the boys to say good work.   Rod Jones
