RND 14: Falcons Return to Form and take the Double

LEAGUE: Falcons 18.10 def Kats 6.4

After the shock loss to Rovers the week before and our coach not available for this week’s game it was Mick Formancyzk that stepped up to the role of coach. Kats looked to be the bigger side and had Damien Peverill playing and with Falcons missing MJ with a broken ankle and Aaron Wheeler with a CL injury we would need to play our best football to secure a win.

The first quarter saw Macca take the ruck and with great defence by Deano and Danny F-Z, Falcons got the first goal on the board within 2 minutes with a second in under 5 minutes. Good hard football and great team work saw Falcons at quarter time 6.3 to Kats 3.0. Vic Belotti came back into the team after 4 weeks off due to injury and started in the forward line but moved into the ruck and started to dominate with some superb taps to Mick F-Z and Ash Milligan which resulted in a 5 goal 2nd quarter to end the half Falcons 11.4 to Kats 5.2.

With Mick F-Z Captain / Coach for the night the bench was being run by Wheels, Gavin Jacks and Old Boy Sully who had the interchange cranking with timed changeouts resulting in fresh legs across the centre which put pressure on the Kats and kept them goaless in the third. The last quarter saw Falcons run out the game kicking another 5 goals and keeping Kats to a single goal scored after the final siren to end the game Falcons 18.10 to Kats 6.4

Mick F-Z played the best game we have seen for the club, leading from the front, he was hard at the ball with 3 of the best shirtfronts seen and winning the ball out of the centre to feed into the forward line. Great game also to Mick Martyn just awesome commitment to winning the ball and with five goals to Sully we proved that we aren’t out of contention for the flag and if we can secure a win against Dampier we will retain top spot and a home final.

RESERVES: Falcons 16.13 def Kats 9.7

The reserves game started a more even affair with only straight kicking keeping us in front at the quarter time break Falcons 4.0 to Kats 3.2. The second quarter saw Falcons dominate the play but our inaccuracy and the pressure from the Kats defenders resulted in a halftime score of 7.8 to Kats 4.2. Kats came out after half time and outscored us for the quarter to get within 22 points which spurred the Falocns boys onto a dominate last quarter to post a convincing win Falcons 16.13 to Kats 9.7. Great game to AJ, Jai Wheeler, Matt Nowotny and with Ben Brierly starting to get some match fitness we go into the last game of the home and away fixtures against Dampier to see who will end up minor premiers for 2010.
